Howdy, Church Leaders!

Recently, the Department of Catechetical Services announced that the Continuing Catechetical Formation (CCF) program will be discontinued, effective June 30, 2019 (see announcement below from Cheryl Whapham).  The CCF program has been coordinated through the Department of Catechetical Services, and many youth ministry leaders contributed to its creation.   You and/or your ministry leaders may have benefited from the formation of the program over the last decade, and we are appreciative of the good work that was carried out through these courses.  For many years, the CCF program and its connection to the Certificate in Youth Ministry by the Center for Ministry Development, was the guiding standard of formation of youth ministry leaders.

As we look to the future, the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries will continue to be a guide for ministry leaders to the best sources of formation to feed them spiritually, develop intellectually, offer the best methodological practices, and grow professionally.  At this time, the OYYACM will continue to create and offer direct formation to ministry leaders through Summits, retreats, workshops, tools and resources, Strategic Ministry Development (direct parish consulting), and modeling of ministry through programs such as DCYC and The 635.  We are ready to serve and support ministry leaders (or pastors/supervisors looking to form members of their team) by guiding them in the creation of a personalized formation plan unique to their circumstances, previous formation, role description, and skill-sets.  As Cheryl mentioned in her letter, the Certificate in Pastoral Ministry co-sponsored by the University of Dallas and the Diocese of Dallas, is an excellent option for ministry leaders seeking a theological background who do not have previous theology formation.  Further, there are many other quality formation opportunities available, including certificates or formation from Franciscan University, Notre Dame University, Lifeteen, and so many others.  Please do not hesitate to reach out for a consultation with a member of the OYYACM team about a professional pathway that best meets your needs.

If you are a youth, young adult, or campus ministry leader or a pastor/supervisor of a ministry leader, and are looking for guidance on what formation plan would best serve you/your parish, don’t hesitate to contact us in the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministry.  We cannot wait to help!

For the Greater Glory of God,

Jason Deuterman

Announcement From the Desk of Cheryl Whapham
Director of Catechetical Services

On September 17, 2010, then Bishop Farrell of the Diocese of Dallas promulgated the Continuing Catechetical Formation (CCF) program.  Many hours were spent birthing this program into existence and utilizing it to form thousands of Catholics to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.Contributions were made by:  Most Reverend Kevin J. Farrell, D.D., Sister Theresa Khirallah, SSND, Lourdes Meyer, Jeanne Jakubowski, Maria Beltran, Maricarmen Corona, Priests of the Diocese of Dallas, Diocesan Pastoral Council, Susan Dorfmeister and Staff of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, Parish Catechetical Leaders of the Diocese of Dallas, and Sister Guadalupe Ramirez, MCDP.Nearly 10 years later, faith formation for a new generation of Catholics is needed.  As you are aware, the Continuing Catechetical Formation program has been slowly being phased out with a discontinuation date of June 30, 2019.I pray the Certificate in Pastoral Ministry co-sponsored by the University of Dallas and the Diocese of Dallas, will form faith leaders for the next decade or more.I offer sincere gratitude for the work that created the Continuing Catechetical Formation program and the Certificate of Pastoral Ministry.  I’m confident that both initiatives were spearheaded by the Holy Spirit to form leaders for their time and place in the history of our Church and Nation.  May all who have so generously given of their time and talent be richly blessed.
